Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami announced on Monday that an investigation will be launched regarding the conferral of honour upon Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at the historic gurdwara Baba Budha Sahib located in the Ramdas area of Amritsar.
Mr Dhami emphasized that there exists a complete prohibition against honoring any political figure inside Sikh shrines.
He stated that rigorous disciplinary measures would be implemented if any SGPC staff members are determined to have violated this protocol.
On Monday, Mr Gandhi visited Punjab to meet with flood-affected residents in the districts of Amritsar and Gurdaspur.
Following his visit to Ghonewal village, Mr Gandhi paid his respects at the historic gurdwara Baba Budha Sahib in the Ramdas area of Amritsar.
He performed 'ardas' (prayer) seeking welfare and prosperity for all people, particularly those impacted by the recent floods.
Mr Gandhi received a 'siropa' (a robe of honour) during his gurdwara visit. The ceremony was attended by former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Congress Punjab in-charge Bhupesh Baghel, along with former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi.
