Telangana Woman's Fatal Battle with Myrmecophobia: A Tragic Case of Suicide Due to Extreme Ant Phobia

A case has been filed at Ameenpur police station following the tragic incident.

According to police reports, a 25-year-old woman allegedly took her own life at her residence in Sangareddy district on Thursday, due to myrmecophobia, which is an extreme fear of ants.

The tragic event occurred on November 4. Police discovered the woman, who had married in 2022 and was mother to a three-year-old daughter, hanging from a ceiling fan with a sari.

Authorities stated that they were informed the woman had suffered from a fear of ants since her childhood and had previously sought professional counseling at a hospital in her hometown of Mancherial.

Earlier on the day of the incident, the woman had dropped her daughter off at a relative's house, explaining that she would return after cleaning their home.

When her husband returned from work in the evening, he found their main door locked from inside. With assistance from neighbors, he forced entry into the house and discovered his wife hanging from the ceiling fan.

A suicide note found at the scene read: "Sri, I am sorry, I cannot live with these ants. Take care of (daughter). Be careful. Annavaram, Tirupati Rs 1,116... don't forget Yellamma vadi biyyam." (rice offering).

Police investigators noted, "It appears she might have encountered ants while cleaning and, overwhelmed by fear, took the extreme step."

The case has been registered at Ameenpur police station, and further investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding this tragedy.
