Kerala Official Visits House For Voter List Revision, Dog Bites Her Face

A Booth Level Officer (BLO) in Kerala suffered multiple dog bites to her face and neck while performing her official duties in Kottayam. The incident occurred when she visited a residence to distribute voter roll revision forms as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

The female officer, one of 171 BLOs assigned to the Kottayam constituency, alleged that the homeowner deliberately released their pet dog on her during her visit. She reported to ANI news agency: "I was on SIR duty in Kottayam, Pakkil. On duty, I was bitten by a dog several times. The injuries are making it hard to do the survey."

Kerala is among twelve states currently undergoing the Special Intensive Revision exercise, which the Election Commission describes as an effort to "purify" voter lists. The second phase of this multi-state initiative was announced on October 27, following the first phase implemented in Bihar before their assembly elections.

During the enumeration period from November 4 to December 4 in Phase 2, Booth Level Officers make up to three visits to voters' residences to match and link their forms. The process timeline includes publication of draft electoral rolls on December 9, followed by a period for voters to submit objections, with the final voter list scheduled for release on February 7, 2026.
