A complaint has been filed against Bollywood actor Salman Khan in the Kota Consumer Court regarding allegedly misleading pan masala advertisements.
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is facing legal challenges after a complaint was lodged against him in the Kota Consumer Court. The complaint alleges that advertisements for a well-known pan masala brand endorsed by Khan contain misleading claims.
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Rajasthan High Court advocate Inder Mohan Singh Honey filed the complaint, calling for a ban on these advertisements. In response, the Kota Consumer Court has issued notices to Khan requesting a formal response to the allegations.
According to the complaint, both the manufacturer of Rajshree Pan Masala and Khan, as the brand ambassador, have engaged in deceptive advertising practices. The advertisements reportedly promote the product as containing "saffron-infused cardamom" and "saffron-infused pan masala."
The petitioner challenges the validity of these claims, pointing out a significant logical inconsistency: saffron costs approximately Rs 4 lakh per kilogram, making it implausible as an ingredient in a product that sells for just Rs 5.
The complaint further argues that such misleading advertisements have a harmful influence on young people, encouraging them to consume pan masala products, which have been linked to rising cancer rates.
"The company, Rajshree Pan Masala and its brand ambassador, actor Salman Khan, claim that the product contains saffron and encourages the youth to consume it. Salman Khan is a role model for many people. We have filed a complaint against it in the Kota Consumer Court and notices have been issued for a hearing," Advocate Inder Mohan Singh Honey told ANI.
He added, "Celebrities or film stars in other countries don't even promote cold drinks, but they are promoting tobacco and pan masala. I urge them to not spread the wrong message to the youth as pan masala is one of the leading causes of mouth cancer."
The Kota Consumer Court has acknowledged the complaint and scheduled a hearing for November 27, 2025. As of now, neither the manufacturing company nor Khan has issued any public response to the allegations.
