3 Killed As Drunk Driver Ploughs Truck Into Crowd, Vehicles In Indore

A truck driven by a drunk man ploughed into pedestrians and vehicles in Indore, leaving at least three people dead and several others critically injured.
A tragic accident occurred in Indore where an intoxicated truck driver crashed into pedestrians and vehicles, resulting in at least three fatalities and many critical injuries. The incident took place on Monday in Shikshak Nagar on Airport Road, where the truck entered a restricted zone.
Deputy Commissioner Krishna Lalchandani confirmed the driver was heavily intoxicated. "He initially struck two motorcyclists at Ramchandra Nagar intersection, dragging their vehicles, before continuing recklessly toward Bada Ganpati area," Lalchandani stated. Authorities have apprehended the driver and taken him to Malharganj police station.
Eyewitnesses described distressing scenes with severely injured victims on the roadway. Local residents quickly transported the wounded to nearby medical facilities.
During the incident, the truck caught fire. While initial reports suggested angry locals had set it ablaze, witnesses clarified that a motorcycle became trapped beneath the truck after the initial collision. The motorcycle's fuel tank exploded due to friction, igniting the truck. The resulting fire intensified the chaotic situation, requiring fire brigade intervention alongside police and medical teams.
Hospitals throughout Indore were placed on emergency alert. Two deceased victims were transported to the district hospital, while Maharaja Yeshwant Rao Hospital prepared a specialized team and reserved emergency ward beds for the injured.
Witnesses reported that bystanders desperately called for the driver to stop as the truck dragged motorcycles and victims. The vehicle continued uncontrollably until reaching Bada Ganpati, where it finally stopped after catching fire.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has directed an investigation into the incident. He posted on X: "The truck accident that occurred in Indore today is tragic. After obtaining detailed information, I have directed the additional chief secretary (Home) to visit Indore for inspection. I have also ordered a preliminary investigation into why heavy vehicles entered the city before 11 pm. I express my condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the swift recovery of the injured."
Officials warned the death toll may increase as several victims remain in critical condition.
