19-Year-Old Murders Pregnant Minor Girlfriend with Axe in Jharkhand: A Case of Family Pressure and Mental Distress

A horrific crime occurred on Tuesday in Jharkhand's Gumla district when a 19-year-old youth allegedly murdered his pregnant minor girlfriend using an axe, according to police reports.

The violent incident took place in Purana Raidih village within the jurisdiction of the Raidih police station.

Authorities identified the perpetrator as Suman Yadav, 19, who attacked Anshika Tirki, 17, who police reported was approximately five months pregnant.

Police investigations revealed that the victim was from Shanti Nagar in Chhattisgarh's Dharamjaigarh and had been residing at the accused's home for about a week.

According to community members, the couple engaged in an argument Tuesday morning. In a moment of extreme anger, Suman grabbed an axe and assaulted Anshika, causing her immediate death.

In a disturbing twist, the accused neither fled the scene nor attempted to conceal his actions, but instead remained inside the residence until law enforcement arrived.

Sandeep Kumar Yadav, the officer in charge of Raidih Police Station, arrived at the location with a police team and apprehended Yadav. The victim's remains were transported to Gumla Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

Authorities stated that Yadav has confessed to the killing. He reportedly explained to officials that he was overwhelmed by guilt and fear regarding having brought a minor girl to his home and her pregnancy, which he believed would bring shame to his family.

The mother of the accused informed investigators that her son had been experiencing mental distress for several days and had been suffering from insomnia.

Local residents also suggested that family and societal pressure connected to the girl's pregnancy had placed significant stress on the accused.

The brutal incident has generated shock, fear, and profound resentment among village residents. Police have expanded their investigation to examine all potential angles—including mental health issues, family pressure, and whether the crime was planned in advance.

The officer in charge of Raidih police station reported that a thorough interrogation of the accused is continuing, and further legal action will proceed based on autopsy findings and investigation results.

A somber mood and sense of alarm pervades the village following this gruesome murder.
