62-Year-Old Cancer Patient Commits Suicide in Gurugram: Mental Health Crisis in Terminal Illness

The tragedy occurred early Tuesday morning while family members were asleep, according to police reports.

Police reported that a 62-year-old woman battling cancer took her own life by jumping from the third floor of her residence in Gurugram's Sector 56 early Tuesday morning.

The incident happened around 6 am when other household members were still sleeping, authorities confirmed.

Investigators revealed that Jyoti Wadhwa had been fighting cancer for many years. Despite ongoing treatment, her condition had progressed to an advanced stage, causing her significant mental anguish.

Family members stated that she had difficulty sleeping even after taking pain medication at night. On Tuesday morning at approximately 5:45 am, she left her bedroom, went to the third-floor terrace, and allegedly jumped to her death.

Her family rushed her to a nearby private medical facility where doctors pronounced her deceased, police said.

A police team arrived at the hospital and took custody of the body. A senior officer mentioned that statements were being collected from all family members, including her husband, two sons, and daughter-in-law.

According to police, family members were asleep during the incident and were unaware of her actions. CCTV footage confirms she went to the terrace alone.

Wadhwa, originally from Delhi, had been residing with her family in Sector 56 for several years.

"All evidence points to suicide. The woman had been suffering from cancer for an extended period and was experiencing severe mental distress," said Inspector Manoj Kumar, SHO of Sector 65 police station. "No suicide note was discovered, but family statements confirm she was deeply distressed. After the postmortem, we released the body to the family while our investigation continues."
