Police Intercept Truck Carrying Rs 17 Lakh Worth Illegal Liquor Headed to Election-Bound Bihar

Ballia: A Bihar-bound truck carrying illegal liquor valued at approximately Rs 17 lakh was intercepted by police in Uttar Pradesh, as reported on Tuesday.
Following the seizure, authorities filed cases against five individuals, with one person taken into custody.
According to Superintendent of Police Omveer Singh, the operation occurred between Monday night and Tuesday morning during standard patrol activities in the Bairia Police Station jurisdiction.
Law enforcement personnel observed an Ashok Leyland pick-up truck moving at high speed from the Shobha Chhapra region. When officers attempted to signal the vehicle to stop, it diverted toward Shankar Nagar.
The police pursued the truck and successfully intercepted it near the Govardhan Parvat temple, as stated by the senior officer.
Upon stopping the vehicle, one occupant managed to flee immediately, while the driver was apprehended.
The detained individual was identified as Chandan Singh Yadav, a 32-year-old resident of Janaupur village in Ballia district.
Authorities recovered liquor valued at Rs 16,75,200 of various brands from the vehicle.
The SP revealed that Yadav informed police he was transporting the liquor to Bihar, which is currently preparing for elections and where alcohol is prohibited.
The electoral process in Bihar includes voting for 121 seats of the 243-member Assembly on November 6, with the remaining 122 constituencies scheduled for November 11.
Vote counting will commence on November 14.
In the current assembly configuration, the ruling NDA alliance holds 138 seats, while the opposition bloc maintains 103 seats.
