Hinduja Group Chairman Gopichand P Hinduja Dies At 85 In London

Gopichand Hinduja, the 85-year-old chairman of the Hinduja Group, has passed away in London. As the second of the four Hinduja brothers, his death comes after the passing of the eldest sibling, Srichand Hinduja, in 2023. His younger brothers, Prakash and Ashok Hinduja, survive him.

Affectionately known as 'GP' within business communities, Gopichand joined the family enterprise in 1950. He is widely recognized for his pivotal role in evolving what was originally an Indo-Middle East trading operation into a global conglomerate spanning multiple industries.

A graduate of Bombay's Jai Hind College, Gopichand held honorary doctorate degrees from both the University of Westminster and Richmond College, according to information on the company's official website.

The Hinduja Group maintains a diverse business portfolio across eleven sectors, including automotive, banking and finance, information technology, healthcare, real estate, power, and media and entertainment. The group owns several prominent brands including Ashok Leyland, IndusInd Bank, and NXTDIGITAL Limited.

In the 2025 edition of the Sunday Times Rich List, the Hinduja family was ranked as the wealthiest in the United Kingdom, with an estimated net worth of 32.3 billion pounds.

The family became the subject of public attention in 2021 when internal disputes reached a London courtroom. Srichand Hinduja's daughter Vinoo and Shanu claimed their three uncles had excluded them from financial matters and decision-making processes. At that time, Srichand was suffering from dementia.

In response to these allegations, Gopichand, Prakash, and Ashok referenced a 2013 agreement among the four brothers stating that "everything belongs to everyone and nothing belongs to anyone." This family conflict escalated as both parties exchanged accusations of misconduct.
