4 UKNA Terrorists Eliminated in Precision Dawn Operation by Security Forces in Manipur

Four UKNA terrorists were neutralized during a security operation in Manipur this morning, according to defense officials.

In an early morning engagement near Khanpi village, approximately 80 km from Churachandpur district, security forces confronted members of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA). The operation continues with search efforts ongoing in surrounding areas.

The UKNA is not among the 24 insurgent groups from the Kuki, Zomi, and Hmar tribes who have signed the recently renewed suspension of operations (SoO) agreement with the central and state governments. Under this tripartite agreement, insurgents must remain in designated camps with their weapons secured in monitored storage facilities.

"During an intelligence-led operation early today, terrorists initiated unprovoked firing on an army column at Khanpi village. In the subsequent exchange of fire between security forces and armed UKNA members, a non-SoO insurgent group, four terrorists were neutralized," the defense spokesperson stated.

The Assam Rifles conducted this operation following recent UKNA atrocities, including the assassination of a village chief, civilian intimidation, and efforts to destabilize the region.

Sources revealed that approximately 17 UKNA militants had taken shelter in a house within Khanpi village. One terrorist was captured while the remaining fighters attempted to escape, with four killed during the encounter.

The deceased terrorists were transported via helicopter to a district hospital.

"The successful neutralization of these terrorists demonstrates the Indian Army and Assam Rifles' dedication to protecting innocent civilians, addressing all threats, and maintaining peace and security in Manipur," the defense spokesperson emphasized.

Earlier this year on March 8, the Assam Rifles dismantled a UKNA camp hidden in jungle areas near Henglep village in Churachandpur.

In July, the UKNA claimed responsibility for killing Kuki National Army (KNA) deputy chief Thenkhothang Haokip (alias Thahpi), 48, along with two other KNA members—Seikhogin, 34, and Lengouhao, 35. A 72-year-old bystander named Phalhing also died during the UKNA ambush on the SUV carrying KNA members.

The KNA is a signatory to the SoO agreement.

Among recent successful operations by the Assam Rifles was a drone strike against terrorists in Arunachal Pradesh's Namsai on October 21, resulting in one ULFA(I) terrorist killed and the recovery of weapons and supplies.
