A 17-year-old girl was shot twice by her stalker, Jatin Mangla, while returning from a coaching class in Faridabad.
In a disturbing incident approximately 40 km from Delhi's border, a teenager was shot by a stalker in Ballabhgarh, located in Haryana's Faridabad district. The victim sustained two bullet wounds and has been hospitalized, while authorities continue their search for the perpetrator.
The attack occurred in Ballabhgarh's Shyam Colony during the evening as the young girl was making her way home from coaching classes. According to reports, the shooter, identified as Jatin Mangla, had been stalking the teenager after she had rejected his advances.
CCTV footage captured the harrowing incident, showing the assailant waiting beside a motorcycle in an alley, apparently concealing something in his bag. When the victim came into view, he moved across the lane with a gun in hand and opened fire. Two companions of the victim fled in terror as he fired twice, with one bullet striking the teenager's shoulder and another grazing her abdomen. After the shooting, the attacker quickly gathered his belongings and escaped on his motorcycle while the wounded girl's friend rushed back to assist her.
Law enforcement officials have recovered the weapon used in the attack and are actively searching for Jatin Mangla. A police spokesperson stated, "Preliminary inquiry reveals that the accused is known to the victim. The girl has recognised the accused. We have registered an FIR. Police and Crime Branch are searching for the accused."
The victim's sister revealed that the teenager is currently preparing for board examinations and routinely took the same route home from coaching classes. "He was waiting for her, you can see in the CCTV footage. As soon as he saw her, he fired," she explained.
According to the sister, Jatin had targeted the girl's heart, but she raised her hand defensively, causing the bullet to pass through her hand before hitting her shoulder. She further disclosed that Jatin had been stalking her sister for several days, adding, "We contacted his family. His mother pleaded with us and said he won't do it again. So we let it go. And the next day, this happens. What kind of country are we living in? This took place just a kilometre from our home."
When questioned about why the family hadn't filed a police complaint regarding the stalking, the sister responded, "Her family was pleading. We should have (registered a complaint), but we didn't."
