Baloda Bazar:
Vaman Tikriha, a dedicated farmer from Muswadih village in Chhattisgarh's Baloda Bazar district, has received the prestigious "Dr Khubchand Baghel Krishak Ratna Award" for 2025-26.
The announcement on November 2 in Baloda Bazar marks a historic milestone as Tikriha becomes the first local agriculturist from the region to earn this state-level distinction since Chhattisgarh's formation, sparking celebrations throughout the community.
Since beginning farming in 1990 and transitioning to organic methods in 2001, Tikriha has exemplified how agricultural innovation can transform limited resources into sustainable success after 25 years of determined effort.
This recognition honors agricultural pioneers who implement innovative techniques, natural farming practices, and diverse income sources—principles that Tikriha's work perfectly demonstrates.
In his interview with IANS, Tikriha detailed his focus on organic aromatic rice varieties including commercial types such as Mahamaya and Swarna. His diversified farm also produces various horticultural crops including plums, guavas, lemons, sweet potatoes, and cranberries.
With government support, Tikriha has integrated fish farming into his operations, generating an additional one to two lakh rupees annually, alongside animal husbandry initiatives. These government-backed ventures have stabilized his income while enhancing profitability.
Tikriha strongly advocates for agricultural diversification, encouraging fellow farmers to move beyond single-crop paddy cultivation.
He believes that incorporating horticulture, aquaculture, and livestock ensures both income stability and growth opportunities for agricultural families.
He calls on government officials to establish agricultural research centers in rural areas, providing farmers with direct access to advanced technologies and training programs. The award has created significant positive impact.
From village communities to district administration offices, the celebration affirms that dedication and innovation can elevate farming to an aspirational profession.
Madhuri, Tikriha's wife, shared their family's joy: "We never imagined receiving such recognition. It fills us with immense pride. While today's youth often seek opportunities elsewhere, agriculture—supported by modern techniques and government initiatives—offers rewarding careers right here."
This award not only recognizes Tikriha's personal achievements but also highlights Chhattisgarh's farming community as innovators who nourish the nation while advancing agricultural development.
In an age where artificial intelligence enhances precision farming globally, Tikriha's organic farming success reminds us that human determination, combined with supportive policies, remains fundamental to agricultural progress.
His inspiring journey encourages younger generations to build their futures in agriculture, demonstrating that perseverance leads to lasting accomplishment and pride.
