A high-ranking female Maoist operative, Sunita, who carried an INSAS rifle and operated across multiple states, has surrendered to authorities in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh.

According to police officials, Sunita formally laid down her arms on November 1 before Rupendra Dhurve, assistant commander of Hawk Force, the specialized anti-Maoist unit of the Madhya Pradesh police.

Authorities revealed that Sunita served as an armed guard for Ramder, a Central Committee member of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) and NMC Zone commander. She had a substantial bounty of Rs 14 lakh jointly announced by the police forces of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh.

Originally from Gomveta village in Bhairamgarh, Bijapur tehsil, Chhattisgarh, Sunita had been active in Maoist operations across Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra's Gondia district, and Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon region.

Police reports indicate that Sunita joined the outlawed movement in 2022 and received training in the Madh area of Chhattisgarh before becoming an active operative.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav released a statement highlighting this surrender as a positive outcome of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's ultimatum to extremists, giving them the option to either surrender or face governmental action.

CM Yadav emphasized the historical significance of this development, noting, "This is the first surrender of any Maoist under the Madhya Pradesh Surrender, Rehabilitation cum Relief Policy 2023. This is also the first time since 1992 that a Maoist belonging to another state has surrendered before the Madhya Pradesh government."

The Chief Minister further reported that Maoists with cumulative bounties totaling Rs 1.46 crore have been neutralized in Madhya Pradesh over the past ten months.
