Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Chhattisgarh's 25th anniversary celebrations at the Rajat Mahotsav in Nava Raipur on Saturday. During this significant event, he laid foundation stones for transformative projects valued at over Rs 14,260 crore, encompassing various sectors including roads, energy, industry, healthcare, and rural livelihoods.
The Prime Minister made this single-day visit to the tribal-dominated state with a comprehensive development agenda. He commenced by focusing on dignity and entrepreneurship, inaugurating 12 new Start-Up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) blocks across nine districts aimed at empowering rural micro-entrepreneurs.
In a notable housing initiative, PM Modi participated in the "Griha Pravesh" ceremony for 3.51 lakh completed homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin). He also released Rs 1,200 crore in installments to three lakh beneficiaries, ensuring secure permanent housing for Chhattisgarh's rural population.
Infrastructure development received substantial attention with the foundation stone for a Rs 3,150 crore four-lane Greenfield Highway from Pathalgaon-Kunkuri to the Chhattisgarh-Jharkhand border under Bharatmala Pariyojana. This strategic corridor will connect 11 districts, linking coal mines, steel plants, and industrial hubs in Korba, Raigarh, Jashpur, Ranchi, and Jamshedpur, creating a vital economic connection between Central and Eastern India.
PM Modi also laid the foundation for upgrading NH-130D across Bastar and Narayanpur regions. Additionally, he inaugurated the two-lane enhancement of NH-130C extending to the Odisha border, significantly improving access to essential services like healthcare, education, and markets in remote tribal areas.
The power sector saw major advancements with the inauguration of the ER-WR Interconnection Project, which adds 1,600 MW inter-regional transfer capacity for improved grid stability. The Prime Minister dedicated energy initiatives worth over Rs 3,750 crore, including Rs 1,860 crore for RDSS works comprising new lines, feeder separations, transformers, and low-tension upgrades to enhance rural and agricultural power supply.
Nine new substations valued at Rs 480 crore across Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Bemetara, Gariyaband, and Bastar districts will provide reliable electricity to more than 15 lakh people, including those in remote tribal areas. Foundation stones were also laid for additional substations and transmission projects worth Rs 1,415 crore in Kanker and Balodabazar-Bhatapara.
Energy security advanced with the dedication of the 489 km Nagpur-Jharsuguda Natural Gas Pipeline costing Rs 1,950 crore. This pipeline connects 11 districts to the National Gas Grid, furthering the "One Nation, One Gas Grid" vision while helping increase natural gas to 15 percent of India's energy mix.
The Prime Minister inaugurated HPCL's Rs 460 crore Raipur Petroleum Depot with 54,000 KL capacity, including 10,000 KL designated for ethanol, ensuring fuel stability and supporting cleaner energy objectives.
Industrial development gained momentum with foundation stones for two Smart Industrial Areas at Siladehi-Gatwa-Birra in Janjgir-Champa and Bijletala in Rajnandgaon, along with a Pharmaceutical Park in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar dedicated to drug and healthcare manufacturing.
In the healthcare sector, PM Modi laid foundations for five new Government Medical Colleges in Manendragarh, Kabirdham, Janjgir-Champa, and Geedam (Dantewada), alongside a Government Ayurveda College and Hospital in Bilaspur, expanding medical education and healthcare access across the state.
