One man lost his life and three family members sustained injuries when their vehicle veered off the Purvanchal Expressway and tumbled into a ditch, according to police reports released Friday.

Police officials stated that the accident took place Thursday night near Chak Teri village as the family was traveling back to Lucknow after attending Chhath celebrations in Azamgarh.

Initial investigations indicate that the SUV driver, 25-year-old Shubham Yadav, apparently fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to lose control before plunging into a roadside ditch. Remarkably, a two-month-old infant girl who was also in the vehicle emerged unharmed from the crash.

Dr. Ajay Pratap Singh, who oversees the Baldirai community health centre, confirmed that police brought in one critically injured individual who was pronounced dead upon arrival. Authorities have arranged for a postmortem examination and notified the family members.

The surviving injured passengers – 18-year-old Kailash Yadav, 23-year-old Golu Yadav, and 8-year-old Vishal Yadav, all residents of Azamgarh – have been hospitalized and are receiving medical treatment.
