Raipur has become home to India's first digital museum honoring tribal freedom fighters, located in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, Chhattisgarh. This innovative institution highlights the courage and sacrifices of tribal warriors who fought against British colonial rule.
The museum, named "Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Memorial and Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum," will be officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Chhattisgarh on Saturday, according to an official statement.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 50 crore across approximately 10 acres, the museum pays homage to Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh, the landlord of Sonakhan who is recognized as Chhattisgarh's first martyr in the freedom struggle against British oppression.
The facility meticulously documents major tribal uprisings from the region, including the Halba Rebellion, Sarguja Revolt, and movements in Bhopalpatnam, Paralkot, Tarapur, Lingagiri, Koie, Meria, Muria, Rani Chauris, Bhumkal, and Sonakhan. It also showcases the Jhanda and Jungle Satyagrahas.
Sonmani Borah, Principal Secretary of the state's Tribal Development department, explained that this state-of-the-art museum incorporates VFX technology, digital projections, interactive screens, and QR codes to provide visitors with an engaging and dynamic experience.
The museum entrance features detailed wood carvings created by Sarguja artisans alongside replicas of ancient Sal, Mahua, and Saja trees. These installations include digital leaves that narrate the stories of 14 distinct tribal revolts.
Additional features include designated selfie points, accessibility accommodations for differently-abled visitors and senior citizens, and sculptures of prominent tribal leaders such as Bhagwan Birsa Munda and Shaheed Gend Singh.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized that this digital museum will serve as a global center showcasing Chhattisgarh's tribal culture, preserving the legacy of tribal warriors, and inspiring future generations with their stories of courage and sacrifice.
