PM Modi to Inaugurate Chhattisgarh's New Rs 324 Crore Legislative Assembly on State's 25th Anniversary

The newly constructed Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, spanning 52 acres in Naya Raipur's Sector 19, is ready for its grand inauguration.

Chhattisgarh marks a significant milestone as it celebrates its silver jubilee on November 1, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to inaugurate the newly built Legislative Assembly in Naya Raipur. This momentous ceremony commemorating 25 years since the state's formation will be attended by distinguished dignitaries including the Governor, Chief Minister, and various Union Ministers.

Established on November 1, 2000, as India's 26th state, Chhattisgarh held its first Legislative Assembly session on December 14, 2000. Due to the absence of a permanent structure at that time, the inaugural session was conducted in a temporary tent facility at Rajkumar College in Raipur.

The impressive new Assembly complex, constructed at a cost of Rs 324 crore, stands as one of India's most technologically advanced legislative buildings. It masterfully combines traditional Chhattisgarhi design elements with modern architectural innovations across its 52-acre campus in Naya Raipur's Sector 19.

The complex features three distinct sections: the Assembly House, the Assembly Secretariat, and the Central Hall. It incorporates sustainable features including solar energy systems and rainwater harvesting facilities. The premises includes parking capacity for approximately 700 vehicles, ensuring efficient management during legislative sessions and public events.

The building's design thoughtfully represents Chhattisgarh's rich tribal heritage, incorporating artistic elements from Bastar and Surguja throughout its corridors. The interior showcases an impressive dome inspired by traditional palatial architecture, while the exterior subtly echoes design elements from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Comprehensive facilities within the complex include a media center, auditorium, art gallery, canteen, and three meeting halls. The building offers separate accommodations for men, women, differently abled individuals, and transgender persons. Three medical facilities are strategically located throughout the premises to ensure visitor safety and accessibility.

A commemorative statue of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna recipient Atal Bihari Vajpayee, during whose administration Chhattisgarh was formed, stands prominently at the entrance as a tribute to his vision for developing India's heartland regions.

Although Chhattisgarh currently has 90 MLAs, the new Assembly has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate up to 120 members, anticipating future expansion. The foundation stone was placed on August 28, 2020, during the Congress government, with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi participating in the virtual ceremony.

The Department of Culture and Archaeology is developing a museum within the complex that will showcase Chhattisgarh's political, social, and economic development over its 25-year history, alongside exhibitions featuring the state's vibrant tribal arts and cultural heritage.
