Nationwide celebrations pay tribute to the 'Iron Man of India' for his pivotal role in consolidating the nation by successfully integrating numerous princely states following independence in 1947.

This national observance was initially established in 2014 when the Government of India formally declared a day to celebrate Sardar Patel's monumental achievements in nation-building. The subsequent year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative to foster sustained and structured connections between citizens from different regions, enhancing mutual understanding and strengthening national bonds.

As a lasting memorial to Sardar Patel's legacy, the Statue of Unity stands majestically on the Narmada River banks in Vadodara, Gujarat. Unveiled in 2018, this colossal monument symbolizing India's unity has become a significant tourist destination.
