Starlink has initiated its first recruitment drive in India, posting several job openings on LinkedIn and the SpaceX careers portal.
Mumbai:
SpaceX-owned Starlink has commenced its inaugural hiring process in India, marking a crucial advancement toward its anticipated satellite broadband service launch in the country.
The Elon Musk-led company has advertised multiple positions on LinkedIn and the SpaceX careers portal as part of its recruitment campaign. The company is seeking candidates for finance and accounting roles, including tax manager, accounting manager, payments manager, and senior treasury analyst, all based in Bengaluru, which will serve as Starlink's operational hub in India.
"As Starlink expands its global footprint to deliver low-latency satellite broadband services worldwide, its Indian subsidiary is looking to hire an accounting manager to oversee financial reporting and compliance," according to the company's job posting.
The role involves establishing and expanding accounting, reporting, and statutory compliance frameworks to support Starlink's Indian operations. The company has specified that only locally based applicants with valid work authorization will be considered, with no remote or hybrid work options available.
These hiring efforts precede Starlink's planned commercial launch of satellite internet services in India, expected in late 2025 or early 2026. The company is currently establishing ground infrastructure and conducting necessary security trials in accordance with government regulations.
Starlink recently demonstrated its broadband service to officials in Mumbai to comply with the Department of Telecommunications' (DoT) requirements regarding lawful interception and security compliance prior to spectrum allocation.
Reports indicate that the company has applied for authorization to establish three gateway stations in Mumbai, Chennai, and Noida. Following the initial launch, Starlink plans to open nine to ten additional gateway locations, including sites in Chandigarh, Kolkata, and Lucknow.
Upon launch, Starlink will compete with Jio Satellite and Eutelsat OneWeb, both of which have secured regulatory approvals but are awaiting final spectrum allocation.
The Department of Telecommunications and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) are still finalizing the frameworks for satellite broadband spectrum pricing and allocation.
