The Gujarat High Court will decide the rightful heir on November 3.

Share Certificates Worth Crores Found In Dustbin Brings Both Joy, Conflict

Ahmedabad:

In Gujarat, a man discovered share certificates valued at crores of rupees while cleaning his late grandfather's village home, bringing unexpected fortune but also family discord. After inheriting the house in Una following his grandfather Savji Patel's death, he stumbled upon these valuable certificates and documents discarded in a dustbin.

Upon evaluating the market value of these shares, he was astonished to find they were worth an impressive Rs 2.5 crore. This discovery represented an unanticipated path to wealth.

However, the sudden prospect of becoming a crorepati overnight has sparked significant family tension. Both the grandson and his father have asserted ownership claims over the share certificates, resulting in a family dispute.

Share certificates are physical documents previously issued as proof of share ownership, which can be converted into electronic dematerialized form.

The inheritance question centers around Savji Patel, who worked as a waiter at a hotel in Diu. Before this employment, he served as a housekeeper at the property owner's bungalow. While Patel resided at the hotel premises, his father was a farmer in Una who owned property there. Patel's son also worked in Diu.

Prior to his death, Patel had officially designated his grandson as heir to his property. However, with the discovery of these valuable shares, the focus has shifted from the house itself. Patel's son claims rightful ownership of the share certificates, arguing his status as Savji Patel's direct descendant.

The grandson refuses to relinquish the certificates, maintaining they were found in the house that legally belongs to him.

The court will ultimately determine "kaun banega crorepati" (who will become a millionaire) between the father and son. The Gujarat High Court is scheduled to hear the case on November 3.
