Mumbai police have registered an FIR against unknown individuals after NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar demonstrated the creation of a fake Aadhaar card in US President Donald Trump's name during a press conference. The demonstration was intended to expose how such fraudulent documents were being used to register bogus voters, officials confirmed on Thursday.

During his October 16 press conference, Pawar showcased the process of preparing fake Aadhaar cards on a website and illustrated how these documents were subsequently utilized for registering fraudulent voters.

BJP's social media cell co-convener Dhananjay Wagaskar observed this content on a YouTube channel, which also included allegations against a BJP office-bearer. Taking the matter seriously, Wagaskar filed a police complaint against the unidentified creator, owner, and user of the website and others involved, according to a police official.

The complainant alleged that a political leader had committed fraud that endangered social security by inciting anger and hatred among the public against an "autonomous institution in India" and the BJP, as stated in the FIR.

Wagaskar further claimed that by generating counterfeit Aadhaar cards through a fraudulent website, there was a deliberate attempt to mislead and create discord and enmity between different social groups.

Based on the complaint, Mumbai's cyber police registered a case on Tuesday against two unidentified individuals under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections for forgery, identity theft, disseminating false information, and violations of the Information Technology Act.

On October 16, Rohit Pawar had alleged that following the BJP-led Mahayuti's unfavorable results in last year's Lok Sabha elections, several electoral malpractices occurred, including registration of fake voters, mass deletion of legitimate voters, and duplicate voter registrations.

Pawar claimed that "unfavorable" voters were falsely reported as deceased, and fraudulent voting took place using the identities of deceased persons.

The NCP (SP) leader pointed out that between the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha polls, 32 lakh voters were added, averaging 6.5 lakh voters annually or 54,000 monthly. However, between the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the Maharashtra assembly polls, a staggering 48 lakh voters were added in just six months.

In his own Karjat Jamkhed assembly constituency in Maharashtra, Pawar alleged that 14,292 voters were added, 5,360 names were removed, and 14,162 duplicate names appeared in voter rolls following the Lok Sabha elections.

The NCP (SP) MLA also highlighted instances where a voter's Aadhaar card from one constituency was repurposed to register another voter in a different constituency by altering the photo and name.
