3-year-old Kavya Singh tragically drowned in Ana Sagar Lake, Ajmer.
Ajmer:
After singing a gentle lullaby to her three-year-old daughter and lulling her to sleep, a mother took the child for what appeared to be an innocent nighttime stroll near a lake. The seemingly tender moment took a horrific turn when she deliberately threw her sleeping daughter into the waters and later fabricated a story about the child having "mysteriously disappeared".
The 28-year-old woman, residing in Ajmer, Rajasthan with her live-in partner after separating from her husband, reportedly committed the act because her current partner frequently criticized her about having a child from her previous marriage.
During a routine late-night patrol, Head Constable Govind Sharma encountered a couple on the street and questioned their presence at such an hour. The woman, who introduced herself as Anjali, claimed she had left home with her daughter but the child had suddenly vanished while they were out. She stated they had searched throughout the night without success.
Police examination of surveillance footage revealed Anjali (also known as Priya) carrying her daughter while walking around Ana Sagar Lake. Approximately hours later, around 1:30 am, cameras captured the woman alone, engaged with her mobile phone.
This video evidence contradicted her account and aroused investigators' suspicions.
By Wednesday morning, authorities recovered the child's body from the lake. When confronted, Anjali reportedly confessed to throwing her daughter into the artificial lake.
Investigators determined Anjali had committed the crime alone. Her partner, Alkesh, was only informed about the missing child at 2 am. Anjali claimed that Alkesh's persistent taunting about her daughter drove her to act out of "stress".
Anjali (C) was living in Ajmer with her live-in partner, Alkesh (L).
Originally from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, 28-year-old Anjali relocated to Ajmer after her marriage ended and began cohabitating with her lover. She works as a hotel receptionist in Ajmer, the same establishment where Alkesh is employed.
Police have arrested Anjali and filed murder charges. They are currently investigating whether Alkesh had any involvement in the child's death.
