Prime Minister Narendra Modi has alleged a rift between the Congress and RJD, two allies contesting together in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, as he strongly criticized the Mahagathbandhan just a week before voting begins. He also condemned Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav for their inappropriate remarks against him at rallies in Bihar. During his speech in Muzaffarpur, the prime minister stated that Gandhi and Yadav believe it is their birthright to verbally attack him.
PM Modi mentioned receiving reports from across the state indicating conflicts between Congress and RJD leaders. Using a "water and oil" comparison to highlight the fundamental differences between the two parties, the PM claimed they have formed an alliance solely to "grab power at any cost so they can loot Bihar." He dismissed their campaign rallies as mere pretense.
Expressing confidence that Bihar will grant the NDA another term, the PM reaffirmed that BJP's priority is ensuring progress and promoting Bihar's culture internationally.
"The RJD and the Congress cannot develop Bihar. These parties governed Bihar for decades but only delivered betrayal and empty promises to the people," he said, sharply criticizing the opposition.
The PM characterized RJD and Congress's governance by five defining elements: "Katta (country-made pistols), kroorta (cruelty), katuta (social resentment), kushasan (misgovernance), and corruption." He added, "Where there is katta, where cruelty dominates, law and order collapses."
Referencing the RJD's rule nearly two decades ago, commonly referred to as 'jungle raj' in political discussions, the PM claimed approximately 35,000 kidnappings occurred during their governance in Bihar. In contrast, he stated that the NDA aims to preserve cultural heritage and ensure comprehensive development across all states, including Bihar.
Regarding the Chhath 'Drama' Controversy
PM Modi asserted that Congress and RJD leaders have disrespected 'Chhathi Maiya' for political gain, appealing to local sentiments days after Gandhi alleged that the PM was performing "drama" over Chhath Puja, Bihar's most widely celebrated festival, during which devotees pray to the Hindu goddess Chhathi Mata, locally known as 'Maiya'.
"Your son is proudly praising Chhathi Maiya before the world. Meanwhile, Congress and RJD leaders are insulting her. Can anyone disrespect Chhathi Maiya just to win votes? Will Bihar tolerate such disrespect? Will my mothers, who observe waterless fasts, accept this?" PM Modi asked the crowd.
The audience responded with a resounding "no."
"How shamelessly are the RJD and Congress speaking? Do they consider worshipping Chhathi Maiya merely a performance, a charade?" questioned the prime minister, adding that such disrespect would remain in public memory for generations. "Bihar stands for self-respect. Bihar will never forgive those who have insulted Chhath Puja."
The PM also informed that the central government is working to secure UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage status for the Chhath festival.
