Former Cricket Captain Mohammad Azharuddin Likely to Join Telangana Cabinet as Minority Representative

Former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin may be appointed to the Telangana Cabinet, potentially becoming the first minister from a minority community in Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's administration. While Telangana Congress officials remain non-committal, Azharuddin's recent nomination as MLC awaits the Governor's approval, as three cabinet positions remain vacant.

Can't Confirm, Deny: Congress On Azharuddin's Induction In Telangana Cabinet

Hyderabad:

Rumors are circulating that former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin may soon join the Telangana Cabinet.

When questioned about this development, Telangana PCC President Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud provided an ambiguous response, stating, "It may be possible. I can neither confirm nor deny," in his conversation with PTI.

Neither the Congress party nor Azharuddin himself has made any official statement regarding this matter.

Currently, the cabinet includes 15 members with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at the helm, but lacks representation from minority communities.

According to established provisions, there remain three vacant positions in the cabinet that could still be filled.

Should Azharuddin be appointed, he would become the first minister from a minority community to serve in Revanth Reddy's cabinet.

The former cricket star was nominated as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) under the Governor's quota by the Telangana government in late August.

However, Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has yet to approve this appointment.

Azharuddin previously contested the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency in the 2023 elections but was unsuccessful in securing the seat.
