Man Arrested for Arms Smuggling Performs Obscene Dance in Kolkata Police Lockup: Investigation Launched

A 24-year-old man created a disturbing scene inside an Ekbalpore police station lockup in south Kolkata, where he stripped naked and performed obscene dances and songs, officials reported on Wednesday.

The individual, identified as Mohammad Shahbaz, had been arrested on Monday in connection with an arms smuggling case when the incident occurred.

"His unusual actions last night compelled us to file a formal complaint. An investigation has been initiated to determine the reasons behind this extraordinary behavior," a police officer explained to PTI.

Authorities stated that Shahbaz, who was detained on firearms smuggling charges, suddenly removed his clothes and began performing vulgar songs and dances in an apparent bid to attract attention.

When officers attempted to control him, the accused—locally known as 'Pagla Shahbaz'—reportedly made threatening statements.

"Female officers were present during the incident, which made the situation particularly concerning. It required significant effort from personnel to restore order," the officer added.

Police have officially registered a complaint against Shahbaz and launched an internal investigation into the incident.
