A 28-year-old man from Pune has been ordered by the Motor Vehicle Court to distribute 1,000 handbills about the dangers of drunk driving after being caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
The incident occurred in the Hinjawadi area of Pimpri Chinchwad on July 22 this year. The court, which handles cases related to Motor Vehicles Act violations, also imposed a Rs 10,000 fine on the offender under section 23 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
According to officials from the Pimpri Chinchwad police's traffic branch, the man was apprehended while operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. A case was subsequently registered against him under the relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
On Monday, the court delivered its verdict, mandating that the offender not only pay the monetary penalty but also print 1,000 handbills highlighting the dangers associated with drunk driving. The court further ordered that these educational materials be distributed to motorists at various traffic signals throughout the city.
The Pimpri Chinchwad police have been actively enforcing drunk driving regulations. Statistics reveal that from January to September of this year, authorities have taken action against offenders in 2,984 cases of drunk driving and have filed the appropriate cases in court.
This creative punishment aims to raise awareness about the serious risks of drunk driving while making the offender directly contribute to public safety education.
