Actor Vijay Meets Karur Stampede Victims' Families and Offers Support One Month After Tragedy

Actor-politician Vijay met with the families of Karur stampede victims on Monday in Mahabalipuram near Chennai. During this emotional meeting, he personally apologized for the tragic incident that claimed 41 lives and left over 60 injured.

This significant meeting occurred exactly one month following the deadly stampede.

According to a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) source, 37 families were transported from Karur to the meeting location—a resort where the party had reserved approximately 50 rooms.

The interactions were conducted privately behind closed doors. Vijay met each family individually, and the party arranged lunch for all attendees.

The TVK leader promised financial assistance to the families, including support for education, self-employment opportunities, and housing needs, the source revealed.

During his conversations with the families, Vijay apologized for bringing them to Mahabalipuram and explained that he could not visit Karur due to permission issues with local authorities. He assured them he would visit Karur soon.

The TVK chief became visibly emotional while seeking forgiveness for the tragedy. He pledged that although he could never truly compensate for their irreplaceable losses, he would care for the affected families as if they were his own. This personal meeting lasted more than three hours, according to party sources.

Earlier in the day, family members of the victims arrived in five buses and were expected to return to Karur, approximately 400 km away, later the same day.

Vijay's TVK had organized this resort meeting to enable him to personally meet the bereaved families and express his condolences.

The tragic stampede, which resulted in 41 fatalities and over 60 injuries, occurred at a TVK gathering addressed by Vijay on September 27.

Earlier on the day of the meeting, TVK leadership had instructed party members not to visit the resort where Vijay was meeting with the affected families.

The party indicated that Vijay would likely resume his political outreach program that had been suspended following the stampede incident.
