Case Filed Over AI-generated Obscene Deepfake Videos Of Telugu Actor Chiranjeevi

A police case has been registered in Hyderabad following a formal complaint by renowned Telugu actor Chiranjeevi regarding the circulation of AI-generated deepfake videos containing obscene content that misuse his name and likeness.

According to police statements released Monday, the actor's complaint details how certain websites have been hosting, publishing, and distributing artificially created videos that falsely depict him in inappropriate situations.

Authorities have filed the case under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, BNS, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. The complaint was formally registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station on October 25, with investigations currently ongoing.

In his complaint, Chiranjeevi emphasized that these AI-generated deepfake videos are causing significant and irreparable damage to his reputation that he has built over decades in the film industry. He clarified that these videos are completely fabricated using artificial intelligence technology that morphs his facial features into explicit content.

The actor further stated that these falsified videos are being deliberately used to portray him in vulgar contexts, thereby distorting public perception and undermining his established goodwill in the industry and society.

Chiranjeevi's complaint also highlighted that these publications appear to be part of a coordinated effort, noting a pattern of organized behavior among the websites that cross-promote, repost, and mirror each other's content to maximize visibility and reach.

The veteran actor has requested authorities to initiate immediate criminal and technical investigations against the accused websites, platforms, and all entities involved in creating, uploading, hosting, and distributing the AI-generated content. He has also called for blocking and removing all such fabricated content from the internet, including from mirror and affiliated sites.

Recently, a City Civil Court issued an interim order restraining various entities from using Chiranjeevi's name, image, and titles associated with his personality and public image.
