Police officers have made two hospital visits to obtain the victim's statement, but he remains in an unconscious state.
In Latur, NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar shared a video on Monday featuring the daughter of a retired teacher who accused a Maharashtra minister's relative of fraudulently obtaining a loan in her father's name and failing to repay it.
Local police authorities have stated they have not received any formal complaint regarding this matter.
The retired educator has been identified as Ramakant Tandle.
The video depicts his daughter sitting beside him at the Ambajogai government hospital, claiming he consumed poison due to extreme mental distress.
Tandle worked at a school in Ujana, Latur district, from 1986 until 2020. According to his daughter, several years before his retirement, the minister's son-in-law secured a loan using Tandle's name, with assurances of repayment.
She alleged that the minister's son-in-law subsequently defaulted on the loan and threatened her father.
"He issued us fraudulent cheques that bounced, and that case remains unresolved. Police are refusing to register a case regarding the attempted suicide," she stated.
"My father ingested poison out of desperation," the woman claimed.
When sharing the video on the X platform, Rohit Pawar questioned the police inaction.
"If the police system exists solely to serve ruling leaders and harass opponents, then the government should at least openly acknowledge this," the NCP (SP) leader remarked.
Assistant Police Inspector Manik Doke from Kingaon police station told PTI that no complaint had been filed thus far.
He added that police personnel have visited the hospital twice to record the victim's statement but have been unable to do so as he remains unconscious.
