Chhath Festival 2025 has arrived in Delhi with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta extending warm greetings to residents and announcing comprehensive arrangements for devotees. The festival includes special celebrations on the banks of the Yamuna River, enhancing the traditional experience for worshippers.
Chhath Puja represents a major Hindu festival with deep cultural significance, particularly celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Nepal. This four-day celebration honors the Sun God, Surya, and his consort Usha through various rituals and offerings.
The Chief Minister's Office has declared Monday, October 27, as a public holiday throughout the national capital, allowing citizens to fully participate in this important cultural observance. Traffic advisories have been issued to facilitate smooth movement around celebration areas.
Educational institutions across Delhi are observing the holiday, with schools closed and most private colleges suspending operations. Vasant Valley School announced, "Government of Delhi has declared Monday, 27th October 2025 as a holiday on account of Chhath Puja, in place of Tuesday, 28th October 2025, which was earlier declared as a holiday."
While Delhi government offices will remain closed, private businesses are operating as usual. Commuters are advised to check travel routes before beginning their journey due to potential congestion around celebration sites.
Essential services continue uninterrupted during the festival. Hospitals, emergency services, and public utilities maintain normal operations. Delhi's transportation network, including Metro services, buses, and auto rickshaws, will function on regular schedules to minimize disruption.
CM Gupta expressed particular satisfaction regarding the Yamuna River celebrations, stating: "After many years, our brothers and sisters will be able to worship the Sun on the banks of the Yamuna Ji and offer Arghya to the Sun. We have made extensive preparations... Heartiest best wishes to all of you. I pray to Chhathi Maiya that her blessings remain upon us all like this."
The administration has ensured all ghats feature adequate lighting, comprehensive safety measures, and proper drainage facilities. The Health Department has deployed medical teams across celebration locations to address any emergencies that might arise during the festivities.
