A husband has allegedly murdered his wife in their Delhi residence before contacting authorities with false claims that she committed suicide.
The crime occurred in the Keshav Puram area of Delhi.
According to police reports, Dinesh Sharma strangled his wife, Sushma Sharma, and subsequently reported to police that she had taken her own life. The husband has been taken into custody.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered the 40-year-old woman's body on the floor. The couple's 11-year-old daughter was present in the same room but was asleep on the bed during the incident.
During interrogation, the man confessed to killing his wife by suffocating her with a pillow.
The accused works as a priest at a local temple. Authorities have secured the victim's body and transferred it to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital for autopsy.
Family members have expressed concerns that police are not properly addressing their questions and are instead attempting to downplay the case.
"Our sister died late yesterday evening, around midnight or 1 am. However, police only informed us about her death at 6 am this morning," stated Ashok Kumar, the deceased's brother.
The victim's family alleges that an extramarital affair was the true motive behind the murder.
"Police claim that the couple had an argument over food which led to the killing. But the actual reason is my brother-in-law's affair. Our sister had been reporting this issue to family members for years," the brother further explained.
