Adani Ports To Showcase Blue Economy Leadership At India Maritime Week

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), India's largest port developer and operator, will demonstrate its pivotal role in developing the nation's Blue Economy at the upcoming India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025.

Set to take place from October 27-31 at Mumbai's Bombay Exhibition Centre, IMW 2025 represents a vision of India's maritime resurgence on the global stage.

At the event, Adani Ports will illustrate how advanced technology, inclusivity, and indigenous innovation are driving India toward a self-sufficient and sustainable maritime future.

The APSEZ Pavilion is structured around four fundamental pillars: Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Women Empowerment, AI-powered Logistics, and Impact. A significant highlight of this year's participation includes multiple MoU signings designed to enhance India's port, dredging, and harbor capabilities under the Make-in-India initiative.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled attendance on October 29, followed by the Global Maritime CEO Forum, will emphasize India's aspirations to become a global maritime leader.

Organized by the Indian Ports Association (IPA) under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, IMW 2025 is expected to bring together more than 100,000 delegates, over 500 exhibitors, 200+ global speakers, and participants from more than 100 countries to shape the future of the global maritime economy.

Over the past decade, India's maritime policy landscape has transformed significantly under the frameworks of Sagarmala and Maritime Vision 2030, encompassing over 150 initiatives across ports, shipping, and inland waterways. These programs aim to establish India as a global maritime hub by promoting port-led development, reducing logistics costs, and developing sustainable coastal infrastructure—all essential components of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

APSEZ, part of the diversified Adani Group, has evolved into a key facilitator of India's port-led growth strategy. From its beginnings as a single port at Mundra, Gujarat, in the late 1990s, APSEZ now manages 15 ports across India and four overseas, supported by 12 multimodal logistics parks, 132 rakes, and a fleet exceeding 5,000 vehicles. Handling approximately one-fourth of India's total cargo volume, APSEZ now represents the country's largest integrated transport utility.

Under its Harbour Business division, APSEZ will sign several long-term MoUs reinforcing its leadership in marine services, including agreements with Mumbai Port Authority for the supply of six ASTDS tugs and one Green tug, with VO Chidambaranar Port Authority for two harbour tugs, with Chennai Port Authority for one 60 TBP Escort Tug Vessel, and with the Directorate General of Shipping for the construction of twelve tugboats—the latter to be signed in Prime Minister Modi's presence on October 29.

In the dredging sector, APSEZ will sign an MoU for constructing a self-propelled grab dredger, marking another achievement in indigenous maritime engineering. Additional MoUs will cover strategic developments at Vadhvan Port, Haldia Port, Vizhinjam LNG bunkering, and Dighi Port, demonstrating APSEZ's commitment to capacity expansion and green infrastructure.

A standout feature of APSEZ's exhibition is India's first Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger simulator, developed indigenously by ARI Simulation for APSEZ under the Make-in-India program—a milestone that showcases India's engineering capabilities and supports Sagarmala's objective of expanding port capacity through domestic manufacturing.

Inclusivity forms an integral part of the APSEZ narrative. At Vizhinjam Port in Kerala, India's first transhipment hub, APSEZ has trained and employed the country's first women quay crane operators, demonstrating how technology and skill development can create equitable opportunities in maritime operations.

The company's Zero Touch Multi-Modal Logistics Platform integrates ports, rail, road, and inland waterways using AI-driven predictive analytics, directly contributing to reduced logistics costs and improved efficiency—key factors in enhancing India's trade competitiveness.

India's Blue Economy, currently contributing approximately 4 percent to GDP (USD 13.2 billion), is rapidly becoming a growth frontier encompassing fisheries, renewable energy, coastal tourism, and logistics. With 100% FDI permitted in port infrastructure and green initiatives such as the Green Tug Transition Programme and Harit Sagar Guidelines, sustainability and self-reliance are increasingly converging.

With its global presence spanning Haifa (Israel), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Queensland (Australia), and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), APSEZ substantially strengthens India's SAGAR Vision (Security and Growth for All in the Region), enhancing regional cooperation and trade resilience.
