New Delhi:
On Saturday night, authorities apprehended a member of Delhi's infamous 'Gala Ghotun Gang' (known as the chokehold gang) after a police confrontation.
The suspect, identified as Himanshu, sustained a leg injury when police shot him during an encounter near Badarpur Flyover Park.
The South-East District Police successfully arrested the criminal following the confrontation. During the operation, Himanshu suffered a bullet wound to his leg. Authorities confiscated a .32 bore pistol and ammunition from him.
According to police reports, Himanshu was a wanted suspect in a robbery case and had previously faced charges of kidnapping and robbery.
On Wednesday, Himanshu and an accomplice targeted a food delivery worker riding a scooter in the Pul Prahladpur area and robbed him.
Surveillance footage captured Himanshu and his associate choking the delivery executive before stealing his possessions and fleeing the scene. The victim attempted to prevent their escape but was unsuccessful.
The Delhi Police Commissioner acknowledged the incident and placed the relevant Station House Officer (SHO) under investigation.
The 'Gala Ghotun Gang' employs a distinctive method of attacking victims by choking them until they lose consciousness before stealing their valuables.
The gang typically operates with two members on a single two-wheeler, approaching targets from behind before applying their signature chokehold technique.
