Tejashwi Yadav serves as the Opposition's candidate for Chief Minister, while Mukesh Sahani has been selected as their Deputy Chief Minister choice.
With Bihar's crucial Assembly elections approaching in less than two weeks, Tejashwi Yadav, leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), announced a significant electoral promise on behalf of the Opposition's Mahagathbandhan alliance.
"If voted into power, the INDIA bloc will double the allowances for representatives of Bihar's Panchayati Raj system," declared Yadav, who represents the Opposition alliance as their Chief Ministerial candidate. Mukesh Sahani, who leads the Vikassheel Insaan Party and stands as the alliance's Deputy Chief Ministerial candidate, was seated beside him during the press conference.
"Panchayat and Gram Kachahari (village courts) representatives have been requesting pension benefits. We have decided to provide them with pensions. They will also receive Rs 50 lakh insurance coverage. Additionally, we will increase the margins for those working within the public distribution network," Yadav announced.
He further promised interest-free loans of Rs 5 lakh for traditional craftspeople including potters, blacksmiths, and carpenters to help them expand their businesses. The RJD leader emphasized that Bihar desires change, stating, "People are frustrated with the current government. Bihar's citizens will bring about change. The people gave them (NDA) 20 years. We just ask for 20 months. We will work to make Bihar the Number 1 state."
Bihar's elections are scheduled for November 6 and November 11, with results to be announced on November 14. The electoral battle features Nitish Kumar's JDU, the BJP, Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha on one side, while Tejashwi Yadav's RJD, the Congress, Left parties, and Sahani's VIP constitute the opposition alliance.
Yadav dismissed claims of discord within the Opposition's Mahagathbandhan, saying, "Mukesh Sahani and I are campaigning together. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi from Congress will also join. A meeting was held to discuss the alliance's manifesto," and added, "No one sees any issues or problems in the NDA."
