Dehradun:
Starting December, vehicles entering Uttarakhand from other states will be subject to a green tax, according to officials.
This initiative has been implemented with the aim of reducing pollution, safeguarding the environment, and enhancing cleanliness throughout the state.
The tax structure varies based on vehicle type - small vehicles will be charged Rs 80, small cargo vehicles Rs 250, buses Rs 140, and trucks between Rs 120 and Rs 700 depending on their weight classification.
State Additional Transport Commissioner Sanat Kumar Singh announced on Saturday that Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras installed at state borders will capture registration numbers of all incoming vehicles.

Singh mentioned that the initial 16 cameras already positioned along border areas have now been expanded to a total of 37.
The transport department has contracted a vendor company specifically for green tax collection purposes.
Data captured by these cameras will be transmitted to the vendor through specialized software, which will filter out information related to Uttarakhand-registered vehicles, government vehicles, and two-wheelers before forwarding relevant data to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) database.
He further explained that the system will then locate vehicle owners' wallet numbers, automatically deduct the appropriate tax amount, and deposit it directly into the transport department's account.
