Haryana DGP Implements Courteous Policing Strategy to Build Public Trust and Reduce Crime

Haryana Director General of Police O P Singh emphasized on Friday that courteous interaction with the public is essential. He instructed police officials to incorporate polite phrases such as 'please', 'sorry', and 'thank you' in their communications, noting that such courtesy would enhance the police force's reputation and build stronger public confidence.

The DGP held a comprehensive meeting with all commissioners of police (CPs), superintendents of police (SPs), and station house officers (SHOs) in Chandigarh, according to an official statement released afterward.

Singh articulated that the police force must evolve to become more proactive, solution-focused, coordinated, and citizen-oriented in their approach.

He declared that the operational methodology of the state police would undergo a complete transformation.

Additionally, the DGP instructed all district officers to perform regular field visits, engage directly with police personnel, and enhance their motivation levels.

Singh stated that his primary goal is to maintain the state police force in optimal operational condition, describing it as "fighting fit and in working order."

He acknowledged that errors during duty performance are natural occurrences, but firmly stated that indiscipline or misconduct would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

The DGP highlighted that Haryana Police serves the public continuously throughout the year. "I cannot bear to see any of my police personnel in danger—our mission is not to perish, but to serve and safeguard citizens," he remarked.

Singh clarified that lawbreakers would face imprisonment according to legal protocols, but warned that anyone who retaliates against or attacks police officers would receive a swift and appropriate response.

The DGP also directed officers of the Haryana Police Housing Corporation (HPHC) to ensure comprehensive upgrades of all police stations and posts within a two-week timeframe.

He specified that kitchens, washrooms, electrical systems, and safety infrastructure should be repaired and improved. Singh stressed that every police station should maintain a clean, secure, and organized appearance.

Furthermore, the DGP emphasized the importance of police presence on social media platforms.

He instructed officers to monitor and address individuals spreading false information or rumors about the police from the earliest stages.

Singh recommended that CPs and SPs communicate daily with citizens through social media, television, or other platforms to foster transparency and trust.

He directed that all police stations and posts must collaborate and develop joint strategies to reduce crime rates in their respective jurisdictions.

Arshinder Chawla, Director of Haryana Police Academy, has been instructed to provide practical training to new police sub-inspectors, ensuring they learn authentic policing techniques rather than adopting approaches inspired by films.

In closing, the DGP reported that rape cases in Haryana have decreased by 50 percent, with an overall significant reduction in crime rates throughout the state.
