A 21-year-old third-year MBBS student at Kota Government Medical College tragically ended her life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her residence on Friday, according to police officials.
The deceased, identified as Prachi Meena, was discovered in her home located in Aakashvani Colony in Kota, Rajasthan.
Family members revealed that Meena had been battling depression following poor performance in a recent medical college examination.
Meena was the daughter of an All India Radio (Aakashvani) employee stationed in Jhalawar district, with family roots in Dausa, Rajasthan. She was residing in a government quarter with her three siblings at the time of the incident.
Nayapura Circle Inspector Vinod Kumar reported that Meena took the drastic step around noon on Friday. Her sister discovered her and immediately called neighbors for assistance.
The young medical student was promptly transported to a nearby private hospital where medical professionals pronounced her dead on arrival. Subsequently, family members transferred her to MBS Government Hospital and notified the authorities.
Preliminary investigation indicates suicide, and police have registered a case under Section 194 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita to conduct further investigation.
Officials stated that an autopsy is currently in progress, after which the body will be released to the family.
