NHAI has instructed its field offices to prominently showcase information about the 'Local Monthly Pass' and 'Annual Pass' at all toll plazas to improve transparency and boost user awareness, according to a government announcement on Friday.
This initiative is designed to ensure that highway users are fully informed regarding the availability, rates, and procedures for obtaining the Local Monthly Pass and Annual Pass facility, as stated in an official release.
The information will be displayed on signage boards at highly visible locations, including toll plaza approaches, customer service areas, and entry or exit points. These displays will be in English, Hindi, and the relevant regional language, as reported by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.
The National Highways Authority of India has mandated that field offices under its jurisdiction install these boards at toll plazas for a period of 30 days. They must also ensure all signboards remain clearly visible during both day and night, in accordance with applicable fee regulations. For broader distribution, this information will also be uploaded to the Rajmargyatra mobile application and corresponding NHAI project websites.
Commuters with private vehicles residing within a 20 km (or as applicable) radius of a toll plaza can avail themselves of the 'Local Monthly Pass' by submitting documents including an Aadhar card, Vehicle Registration Certificate, and proof of residential address. The ministry explained that the monthly pass is issued at the toll plaza helpdesk following verification of these documents.
Similarly, the 'Annual Pass' facility, valid for one year or 200 toll plaza crossings, is applicable exclusively for private vehicles, including cars, jeeps, or vans.
The annual pass can be purchased through the Rajmargyatra application and is digitally activated on the valid FASTag attached to the vehicle after payment of a one-time fee of Rs. 3,000. This annual pass is accepted at approximately 1,150 toll plazas on national highways and expressways throughout India.
