The investigation into Assam cultural icon and singer Zubeen Garg's death continues as police officers return from Singapore with critical updates.

Guwahati authorities have confirmed that Singapore officials will soon provide vital statements and investigative information regarding the case.

CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta revealed that Singapore authorities have already transmitted Zubeen Garg's postmortem report through the Indian High Commission, describing it as "very important from the investigation point of view."

"We met with the Indian High Commissioner in Singapore on the 20th to discuss all necessary legal assistance from Singapore Police. We emphasized our need for timely cooperation as our investigation must conclude within 90 days," Gupta explained to NDTV during an interview in Guwahati.

The Assam special investigation team (SIT) conducted visits to significant locations in Singapore connected to the case. Gupta noted that Singapore Police have promised a positive response within 10 days regarding India's September 30 request for legal assistance under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT).

"Based on my CBI experience, international cooperation typically requires considerable time. Fortunately in this case, Singapore authorities have responded both positively and promptly," Gupta stated.

Among 11 non-resident Indians (NRIs) connected to the case, 10 have provided their statements, while seven individuals have been arrested for financial irregularities.

"Substantial unexplained funds were discovered in their bank accounts that couldn't be justified by their income, resulting in a disproportionate assets case filed by the Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell under the Prevention of Corruption Act," Gupta explained.

He confirmed that more than 70 people have been questioned thus far, with investigations continuing.

"We're working around the clock to finalize the investigation within the required timeframe," he added.

Singer Garima Saikya Garg appeared before the SIT last Friday.

Zubeen Garg died under mysterious circumstances while swimming in Singapore waters on September 19. He had traveled there to participate in the 4th edition of the North East India Festival.

Singapore Police are conducting their own independent investigation into the matter. On October 17, they announced that preliminary findings have not indicated any foul play in Zubeen Garg's death.
