Fortuner Crash In Delhi Kills Cousins Heading To Murthal For Dinner

New Delhi:

Two cousins lost their lives in a tragic late-night accident when their Fortuner SUV collided with a truck and burst into flames in outer Delhi's Rani Bagh area early Thursday morning. The fatal incident occurred around 3 am when the Fortuner crashed into a truck traveling ahead of it.

Delhi Police sources report that the collision was extremely violent, causing the SUV's bonnet to become trapped beneath the truck. The vehicle was then dragged approximately 400-500 meters before catching fire.

The victims, identified as 20-year-old Henry from Meera Bagh and 21-year-old Dipanshu Chandela from Paschim Vihar, were trapped inside the burning vehicle. Their families later confirmed their identities.

A family member informed NDTV that the cousins had departed from home around 2:30 am, intending to have dinner at Murthal.

Police received notification about the accident at approximately 3:10 am, prompting a team from Rani Bagh Police Station to respond immediately. Fire services were dispatched to extinguish the flames, but unfortunately, both occupants had already perished by the time the fire was contained.

The victims' remains were subsequently sent for post-mortem examination before being released to their grieving families.

Authorities have detained the truck driver, who stated he was traveling from Mundka to Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar when the SUV crashed into the rear of his vehicle.

A case has been registered, and investigators are working to determine if speeding or other factors contributed to the collision.

According to a family member, Henry was pursuing a BBA degree in Pune. Tragically, his family had previously lost his elder brother at a similar age. Henry's father works in mobile tower installation.

Dipanshu was a BBA student at a college in Rohini and is survived by his parents and a sister. His father works as a local property dealer.

Delhi Police are currently awaiting a mechanical inspection report of the vehicles involved to establish the precise cause of this tragic accident.
