Indian Navy's INS Trikand Conducts Heroic Rescue Operation Following Vessel Fire Off Djibouti Coast

The Indian warship INS Trikand executed a critical firefighting and rescue mission aboard the Cameroon-flagged MT Falcon off Djibouti's coast, successfully rescuing 24 crew members while recovering the remains of two casualties. The specialized team braved extreme conditions including intense heat and toxic fumes during the operation in the Gulf of Aden.

The Indian warship INS Trikand executed a critical rescue mission aboard the Cameroon-flagged commercial vessel MT Falcon off Djibouti's coast after the ship caught fire, resulting in two crew fatalities.

MT Falcon had 26 crew members on board, including one British national and 25 Indian citizens. According to the Indian Navy, 24 crew members were successfully rescued by merchant vessels operating in the area.

The Indian Navy stated that INS Trikand was deployed in the Gulf of Aden performing maritime security operations when it provided crucial firefighting assistance and conducted search and rescue operations for the distressed vessel.

"A specialized team of firefighting and medical experts from INS Trikand boarded MT Falcon and recovered the remains of two missing crew members, despite challenging conditions including intense heat, compromised structural integrity, and toxic fumes," the Navy reported on their X platform.

"The remains were subsequently transferred to the Embassy of India in Djibouti," the statement concluded.
