UP Man Murders Wife Over Suspected Infidelity and Buries Body Inside Home

Police confirmed on Wednesday that they have arrested a 48-year-old man who allegedly murdered his wife over suspicions of infidelity and buried her remains inside their residence in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ramanand Prasad Kushwaha informed PTI that the suspect, Harikishan from Narpatpurwa locality in Ahata village, was apprehended on Tuesday in Durgapur Tapesi village in the neighboring Barabanki district.

According to investigators, Harikishan, who was employed as a laborer in Haryana, had recently returned home. His wife, Phoola Devi (45), had been missing since October 6, which prompted her brother to file a missing person report on October 13.

The case developed last Friday when the woman's brother noticed disturbed soil beneath the suspect's bed and alerted authorities. Upon excavation, police recovered Phoola Devi's decomposed remains buried approximately five to six feet underground. By this time, the suspect had already fled the premises, officials reported.

Following the discovery, authorities upgraded the missing person case to a murder investigation and deployed police teams to locate the husband.

During questioning, Harikishan allegedly admitted that upon his return from Haryana, he discovered his wife in an intimate situation with a villager named Guddu. In a fit of rage, he killed her and concealed the body in his room, according to the ASP.

Police stated that the accused has been presented before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
