Wages Withheld, Sanitation Workers Dump Garbage In Front Of Panchayat Office In Bihar

Sanitation workers in Bihar's Nawada district took drastic action on Wednesday, depositing garbage directly in front of the Rajauli Nagar Panchayat office to protest unpaid wages during the festive season.

Frustration mounted among the workers who had continued their duties based on promises that their outstanding payments would be processed. After these assurances went unfulfilled, they initiated a strike that reached its fourth day when they decided to dump the accumulated waste at the panchayat office's entrance.

Following this demonstration, the sanitation workers marched through the city, vocally protesting against panchayat officials including the chief councillor and deputy chief councillor. Their primary demand is to receive their wages before the commencement of Chhath Puja celebrations on Saturday, with workers affirming they will maintain their strike until payment is made.

Mohammad Gufran Majhari, the Nagar Panchayat Officer in Charge, responded by stating that disciplinary action would be pursued against workers responsible for dumping garbage at the office. Regarding the wage issue, he mentioned that the contractor has committed to delivering one month's worth of salary dues to the workers in the near future.

Local residents have expressed concern about the deteriorating sanitary conditions in the area, noting that waste has been accumulating in the streets since the strike began. This has created unpleasant odors and heightened health concerns about potential disease outbreaks in the community.
