Gurugram:
In a tragic incident, a 28-year-old nurse employed at a private hospital allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the seventh floor of her residential building with her 3-year-old son tied to her waist. Both mother and child died instantly at the scene, according to police reports released Wednesday.
Following a complaint filed by the woman's brother, authorities have registered a dowry death case against her husband and in-laws at the Sector 10 A police station on Wednesday.
Police identified the deceased as Sharmila and her son Yuvan. Sharmila worked as a nurse at a private healthcare facility, while her husband Rohit operates a juice stall near the Gurugram district court.
The couple, who had been married for four years, originally hailed from different villages in Mahendergarh district and resided in a flat in Siddharth enclave near Wazirpur village.
According to police investigations, the couple's relationship had been strained with frequent quarrels since their marriage began. Sharmila's parents had attempted to mediate and resolve their conflicts on multiple occasions. On Tuesday, Sharmila's family had visited the couple to discuss these ongoing issues.
Shortly after her family departed, Sharmila jumped from the seventh floor at approximately 3:30 PM with her son Yuvan secured to her body. Both succumbed to their injuries immediately. Police arrived at the scene and notified the woman's family about the incident.
On Wednesday, Surender, the woman's brother, alleged that Sharmila's husband and in-laws had persistently harassed her over dowry demands, which ultimately drove her to take this extreme step.
Based on these allegations, an FIR has been filed against Rohit and four members of his family under relevant sections of the BNS at the Sector 10 A police station.
Sub-inspector Jagdish Kumar, who is investigating the case, stated, "A probe is underway. We will hand over the bodies to the family after completing the postmortem tomorrow."
