The family of the deceased girl has alleged that teacher Manoj Kumar Pal abducted and killed her.
Kolkata:
A Class 7 student from West Bengal who had been missing for 20 days was discovered dead in a waterlogged area near Birbhum's Kalidanga village. The girl's body was found dismembered. Her family has accused a teacher from her school, Manoj Kumar Pal, of kidnapping and murdering her. Authorities have arrested the accused teacher.
The deceased girl was a resident of the Rampurhat area in Birbhum and attended a school in Shyampahari.
According to Press Trust of India, quoting an unnamed police official, the teacher had allegedly been sexually harassing the student.
"The girl's parents filed a complaint alleging that the teacher had inappropriately touched their daughter on multiple occasions. The accused has confessed to kidnapping and murdering the girl before disposing of her body," the officer was quoted as saying.
Prior to her disappearance, the girl had informed her mother about the teacher's inappropriate behavior. After she went missing, her mother reported this information to the police. "Suspecting his involvement, we took the teacher into custody, and following extensive questioning, he admitted to kidnapping and killing the minor," the officer said, as reported by PTI.
Family sources revealed that the girl had left home on August 28 to attend tuition classes but never returned, prompting them to file a missing person's report. They later claimed to have discovered that teacher Manoj Kumar Pal had abducted her.
On Tuesday morning, local police recovered her decomposed body. Superintendent of Police Amandeed confirmed via telephone that no rape case has been registered yet. A murder case has been filed, and the body has been sent for postmortem examination.
The police superintendent stated that the body had been dismembered and discarded in water.
Police are investigating the motive behind the teacher's actions and whether the victim suffered physical abuse before her death. However, the investigation is hampered by the body's advanced state of decomposition. The arrested teacher, who has been placed in police custody for nine days, continues to be interrogated.
