Woman Suffers Severe Burns After Self-Immolation Following Domestic Dispute in Uttar Pradesh

A 30-year-old woman from Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh, set herself on fire after a quarrel with her husband who allegedly refused to let her visit her parental home. She sustained critical burn injuries and was transferred to Jhansi Medical College as her condition deteriorated. Police are investigating the incident though no formal complaint has been filed yet.

The unfortunate incident occurred in Banpur area on Tuesday evening, according to police reports.

In Jhansi, a tragic event unfolded when a 30-year-old woman sustained severe burn injuries after allegedly setting herself ablaze following a domestic dispute with her husband in Uttar Pradesh's Lalitpur district. Police confirmed the incident on Wednesday.

Police officials stated that the incident took place in the Banpur area on Tuesday evening.

According to Lalitpur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kalu Singh, the woman identified as Aarti (30), wife of Sanju Raja, doused herself with a flammable substance and set herself on fire following an argument with her husband at their residence in Barai village.

"She was first taken to Lalitpur district hospital in critical condition, and subsequently transferred to Jhansi Medical College as her condition worsened," Singh explained.

In her statement to authorities, Aarti claimed that she took this drastic step because her husband had refused to allow her to visit her parents' home.

The ASP mentioned that the woman's family has not yet filed a formal complaint. "However, appropriate action will be initiated once we receive a written complaint." He added that police personnel have been dispatched to the hospital to investigate the matter further.
