The Assam Rifles successfully detained two Myanmar-based insurgents in Manipur's Chandel district.

Two members of a Myanmar-based armed group were apprehended by Assam Rifles in Manipur's Chandel district, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.

The operation occurred on October 18 near the Sajik Tampak area in the district, which borders Myanmar.

According to the paramilitary force, the captured individuals have been identified as members of the United Tribal Volunteers Group.

The Assam Rifles statement mentioned that the operation was conducted based on specific intelligence and "effectively thwarted an attempt at cross-border militant movement along the India-Myanmar frontier."

The detained insurgents have since been transferred to Chakpikarong Police for further investigation.

Significantly, Manipur has been experiencing ethnic violence between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups since May 2023. The ongoing conflict has resulted in more than 260 fatalities and thousands of people being displaced from their homes.
