A teenage boy has been apprehended by Delhi police after allegedly shooting at a 75-year-old man in central Delhi's Chandni Mahal area, authorities reported on Wednesday.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when the 16-year-old boy, accompanied by his friend Sameer Malik, reportedly fired at Malik's grandfather Shabuddin during what police described as a longstanding property dispute.
Police officials confirmed that the teen, who resides in Old Janakpuri, was taken into custody near Press Club Road in the Kamla Market area.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Vikram Singh stated, "A pistol along with two live cartridges used in the offense was recovered from his possession."
During questioning, the juvenile admitted that he and his friend immediately fled the scene after firing at the elderly man.
Authorities revealed that the boy had discontinued his education after class 7 and subsequently became involved with negative influences. He reportedly developed dependencies on alcohol and tobacco products.
The teen comes from a modest background, with his mother operating a small tea stall while his father works as a daily wage laborer.
Police have registered a case under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to attempted murder, as well as violations under the Arms Act in connection with the shooting incident.
According to police records, this is not the teenager's first encounter with law enforcement. He has previously been implicated in an attempted murder case in Delhi's Dabri area and a separate firing and extortion incident in Alipur.
