A contract-based assistant cook working at Karnataka's Pre-Matric Boys' Hostel in Basavakalyan has been suspended after participating in a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) event.
The employee, identified as Pramod, had his services terminated for violating government service regulations that prohibit state employees from joining private organizations or attending their affiliated events.
This suspension comes shortly after the Karnataka cabinet introduced rules seemingly designed to regulate RSS activities, including road marches and events held in public areas and government facilities.
The decision has sparked controversy as photographs from the same event show numerous government officials in attendance, including headmasters from two schools and a college principal. Reports suggest that more than 20 state employees participated in the RSS Path Sanchalan event in Basavakalyan.
In response to the growing controversy surrounding the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has clarified that no ban has been imposed on the organization. He emphasized that the RSS is not specifically mentioned in any order regarding permissions for associations operating in educational premises.
