New Delhi:
A 22-year-old call centre worker was fatally stabbed by five individuals, including four minors, after a dispute in the Tughlakabad forest area of southeast Delhi, authorities reported on Wednesday.
The suspects, Sumit (22) and four juveniles, were having a party in the isolated forest area, while the victim, Prem Barman, was present in the same vicinity with a companion, according to officials.
A confrontation between the groups erupted over noise levels, which subsequently escalated into verbal confrontation and physical violence, a senior police officer explained.
"Police were alerted to the incident around 2:08 am on September 16, when a PCR call reported a young man's body discovered in a wooded area near Nirmal T-point in Sanjay Colony," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari.
"Barman was assaulted following a verbal altercation that turned physical. In a moment of rage, the accused allegedly inflicted multiple stab wounds on him in the isolated Tughlakabad forest setting," he further stated.
Following investigative leads, police identified the suspects and apprehended Sumit along with four minors. Sumit, who discontinued education after class 6 and works at a water supply shop, has a previous record under the Arms Act. His father is employed as a security guard, according to police.
Authorities also seized two blood-stained knives used in the attack and the blood-stained clothing belonging to the accused.
The victim, who resided in Tughlakabad village, was employed at a call centre. He lived with his mother, who works as a domestic helper, and his three sisters. His father works as a laborer in Rajasthan, the DCP mentioned.
Additional operations are underway to capture two more suspects, Tiwari added. A case has been registered at the Govindpuri police station under relevant sections, and the investigation continues, police confirmed.
